Thirsk Lodge Barns Wedding Videographer
Carly and Matt booked me as their Thirsk Lodge Barns wedding videographer. As a Yorkshire wedding videographer specialising in documentary wedding films, I was excited to film my first wedding at this beautiful North Yorkshire venue.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing lots of new wedding venues open up in North Yorkshire. Thirsk Lodge Barns officially opened in 2021,and is a strong addition to the growing range of modern barn wedding venues in the county. It is a venue that feels both cosy and personal, yet spacious enough to bring all your favourite people together. As a wedding videographer, it is a dream to film at.
Thirsk Lodge Barns has been designed specifically with weddings in mind. Every space flows naturally into the next, the light is beautiful throughout the day, and there is a timeless feel that means your wedding film will look just as good in 20 years’ time as it does on the day.
DRONE VIDEOGRAPHY AT THIRKS LODGE BARNS
Carly and Matt’s wedding took place in October, and the day started with typical Yorkshire weather: low cloud and dark skies. However, there is a benefit to low cloud. Flying the drone meant I could fly into the cloud, and it looked epic. With UK drone flying restrictions, it is often impossible to fly high enough to reach cloud level, but for Carly and Matt’s Thirsk Lodge Barns wedding, it was not a problem. The low cloud helped create a moody and atmospheric start to their wedding film.

Preparation for Carly and Matt took place on the Thirsk Lodge Barns estate, relaxed and informal. It was easy to move between them to cover their wedding morning. The ceremony was held in the barn itself, and right after the first kiss, the low cloud cleared and beautiful autumnal sun broke through. Perfect timing for the drinks reception, which was then held in the courtyard at Thirsk Lodge Barns.
Autumnal sun is beautiful for wedding videography; it makes every shot look warm and soft. My style of videography means I often shoot into the light and through the many windows at Thirsk Lodge Barns to create natural lens flare and a cinematic feel.
Fantastic speeches followed before the wedding breakfast and then into the evening reception. I absolutely loved filming at Thirsk Lodge Barns. The venue is thoughtfully designed, with great light and stylish décor. As a Yorkshire wedding videographer filming at Thirsk Lodge Barns and throughout North Yorkshire, I am delighted to have already been booked to return in 2026. I cannot wait to film in both summer and winter to capture two completely different wedding styles at this amazing venue.
WHY THIRSK LODGE BARNS IS GREAT FOR DOCUMENTARY STYLE VIDEOGRAPHY
The Ceremony Barn at Thirsk Lodge Barns has a lovely sense of warmth thanks to the red brick and original beams. It is incredibly photogenic and gives your wedding film a grounded, intimate mood during the vows. Whether you are having live music, acoustic strings, or a personal reading, the acoustics here make everything feel richer and more emotional.
Importantly, there is room to move. This allows me to film from multiple angles without being distracting, capturing your reactions and those of your guests naturally.
The Courtyard is perfect for confetti and an outdoor drinks reception. Once the confetti flies, your guests naturally spill into the Courtyard. With a wall of windows that can be fully opened, the bar and Courtyard work as one indoor-outdoor space, creating the perfect drinks reception.
This is where some of the most joyful footage of the day is captured. And when the sun begins to dip, the surrounding fields provide some of the best golden hour footage anywhere in Yorkshire. We can slip away for just 10 to 15 minutes to capture natural, unposed moments. Just time to breathe, walk, talk, and be together in the Yorkshire countryside.
The Main Barn is bright and spacious with high ceilings and open beams, perfect for dinner and speeches. Because of the layout and lighting, speeches look incredible here. Whether they are hilarious, heartfelt, or both, this is where storytelling really comes alive in your wedding film.
It is back to the Main Barn for your first dance and evening party. This barn is designed with celebrations in mind. The atmosphere is always brilliant, and once the band or DJ starts, the energy lifts instantly.
To put it simply, the natural light, flowing spaces, and relaxed atmosphere are why I love wedding videography at Thirsk Lodge Barns. With so much variety in one location and a welcoming feel that encourages real emotion, it is the perfect venue for natural, documentary wedding videography.
